Save the Children


Save the Children SC (UK) began to operation in Ladakh region after the flood in Indus River. After the relief project of SC (UK), on the request of local government providing supplementary nutrition to the children in the affected villages along side the Indus River. After the relief project of SC (UK), on requests of local/ state government took up Integrated Development Project in collaboration in with ICCW (Indian Council for Child Welfare) and J&K CCW (Jammu and Kashmir Council for Child Welfare) and local administration. SC (UK) was instrumental to create a local NGO called LNP (Leh Nutrition Project).Till 1992 SC (UK) and LNP work together under the same umbrella known as Save the Children/ Leh Nutrition Project.

Objectives

  • To initiate community organisation process in the camps and to enhance the capacity of the community in responding to any man made or natural calamity
  • To provide supplementary educational services to children in coordination with the state services and other forms of services available in the camps
  • To ensure early childhood care and protection for  children in the camps
  • To enable children to acquire basic life support skills
  • To inculcate appropriate lessons of hygiene promotion
  • To minimise psycho-social impact of  conflict and displacement on children with creative forms of recreational activities
  • To advocate for the regular supply of supplementary nutrition  by the state government.

Programme Components

  • The programme aspires to provide a comprehensive service package with the following components:
  • Community Organisation Process & Capacity Building
  • Psycho-social Need Assessment
  • Supplementary Education
  • Creative & Therapeutic Engagement
  • Hygiene and Health Promotion
  • Facilitation for Regular Supply of Nutritional Programmes.
