Executive Councilor Agriculture inspected Model Orchard Farm at Saspol, Nursery Farm & Food Processing Unit Nimmo

The Executive Councilor Agriculture Sonam Dorjey along with Chief Horticulture Officer and District Agriculture inspected Model Orchard Farm at Saspol, Nimmo Nursery Farm, Food Processing Unit Nimmo and Gufuk farm today and took stock of the functioning of this establishments.
Inspecting the Saspol Model Orchard Farm, Mr. Dorjey urged the Horticulture deptt to give more focus on cultivation of Ladakh oriented nurseries of quality fruits for multiplication in all potential parts of the district. He said that multiplication of fruits trees in Ladakh would be quite beneficial for people’s health besides becoming a sources of income generation for so many farmers. It was told to the EC that 3500 fruits nurseries were distributed among the farmer of Leh district this year from Saspol farm. It was also told that 1200 nursery plants from Nimmo were also distributed among the people this year.
The Nimmo food processing unit which is all set for functional, Sonam Dorjey urged the concerned deptt to do all necessary steps to make it early functional in order to facilitate the farmers with value addition for their products. While inspecting Nimoo Nursery Farm, Dorjey appreciated the Chief Horticulture Officer for his initiatives in improving the farm. He also inspected the progress of the main canal of Nimmo Nursery Farm.
Considering immense potential of seedling cultivation at Gufuk farm which was extensively damaged by the flood in 2010, Sonam Dorjey strongly urged upon the agriculture department to take all necessary measures for early restoration of this farm and make it functional for the larger benefits of the farmers of Leh district.
