Leh: 10th, January,  2012 - (Visit Ladakh) - As a flow up of the recent meeting between the LAHDC, Leh, National Museum Institute New Delhi and the cultural fraternity of Ladakh held in Leh regarding setting up of a Museum in Leh, holding of an International Conference and organizing a grand exhibition to be held in Leh in September this year, the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Mr. Rigzin Spalbar today held a meeting with the Director General, National Museum Institute (NMI) at New Delhi.

Apart from reviewing the preliminary preparations of these proposed events, some important issues like dating of ancient religious objects and artifacts of different monasteries, documentation of three historically important villages of Ladakh and providing technical supports from National Museum Institute to the Monasteries of Ladakh in preserving and displaying the monastic objects also focused in the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting that NMI would conduct a 10 day training course to the representatives of the Monasteries for up-gradation of technical know how about the preservation and protection of the aged old monastic relics and artifacts. Besides, the NMI would also organize special training to the Research Assistants from Ladakh in documentations, the CEC said.The CEC said that training and educating the locals in preservation and documentation of the values of heritage, art and objects would surely lead to protect our rich cultural forms which has greater threat of loss.

Mr. Spalbar said that LAHDC, Leh and the National Museum Institute have principally decided to sign on a MOU aimed at to give more focus for preservation of unique cultural significance and priceless monastic values of Ladakh through short term as well as long term projects.

The CEC also said that the UNESCO would also play a great role in establishing the proposed Museum in Leh, conducting of International Conference and organizing the Exhibition in Leh in September this year and adding that UNESCO’s involvement in these events would make these events more meaningful and significant.
