LEH, Jan 22: In a significant development, the LAHDC in collaboration with ICIMOD launched an 11 day training workshop in Pashmina spinning to women entrepreneurs of Changthang region.
The workshop organized by the Sheep Husbandry Department Leh and launched by the Deputy Commissioner, Leh T Angchok is a conscious bid to move forward in the value addition initiative taken by LAHDC, Leh by setting up and successfully running the multi crore Pashmina Dehairing Plant at Leh.
Mr. Angchok said that this training will provide the necessary skill to the women Pashmina growers in spinning through Charkha which will go a long way not only in reaping maximum benefits to the growers themselves but also help revitalize the ancient glory of Changthang nomadic life by preventing their migration.
The Dy. Commissioner further stressed the need to impart weaving training to the women of Changthang in pashmina products in 3rd phase of skill development training so that they would be able to get maximum economic benefit from their products in years to come.
The District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Wangchuk while addressing the inaugural function highlighted the objective of the training course.
As many as 100 women from Durbuk and Nyoma blocks of Changthang participating in the training course.
