CEC LAHDC Leh, Rigzin Spalbar inspecting Republic Day Parade. LEH/KARGIL, Jan 26: Chief Executive Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil unfurled the National Flag at district headquarters with patriotic fervour to mark the celebrations of Republic Day.

Addressing a gathering at Leh Pologround after flag hoisting ceremony, the CEC LAHDC Leh, Rigzin Spalbar said that for healthy future of Ladakh, prosperity of posterity, all round development of this region and to maintain the values of a civilized society, the menace of corruption should be completely eradicated from the society.

He said, "in the changing scenario, Ladakh has also came under the shadow of corruption and if we fail to check the menace of corruption in time, it would weaken a small society like ours". "Be it the politicians, public representatives, Government officers, officials, NGOs or public themselves, LAHDC would not tolerate any form of dishonesty", he cautioned.

Recalling the recent unfortunate flash floods that claimed 235 human lives and huge properties, Mr Spalbar said that Ladakh has a fragile ecology having further risk of reoccurrence of flash flood and other calamities like earth quake and wind storm, adding "it is important to plan in advance how such losses and damages can be minimized in a best way".

The CEC said that Hill Council is already in close association with the National Disaster Management Authority and National Institute of Disaster Mitigation to find a way out that how the people and Government functionaries of this district could be fully educated by imparting training about the preventive measures of such natural calamities and to prepare to face the future challenges.

To mark the occasion, an impressive parade followed by cultural programmes were presented by different schools. Some of the officials and individuals who have done excellent job during the flood devastation and some teachers and masters who have shown extraordinary performance in their field were also awarded.

Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil, Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan, while addressing the gathering after hoisting National Flag at Beamathang playground and taking salute at an impressive march past, recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes, who laid down their lives for the sake of the country.

He called upon the people to follow and uphold the age old tradition of brotherhood and communal harmony.

Presenting a brief review of the developmental activities, he said that 10 Solar Power Plants are nearing completion, while work is also being started on 10 mini hydel projects shortly from which 15 MW power generation is expected.
